So you have never been to The Brooklyn Hip-Hop Festival and you want to know how to make the most of NYC’s largest Hip-Hop cultural event? No worries. We got you. We have crafted this fresh FAQ/Survival Guide so you don’t get left out.

It is important to note that everyone entering the Festival is subject to search.  Small bags and packages are allowed into the Festival and will also be subject to search.  However, anyone carrying a large bag or backpack will not be allowed into the Festival and WILL BE TURNED AWAY.  Please don’t be that person that gets turned away!

What NOT To Bring To The Festival – You will not be allowed to enter any of our events if you come with any of the following:

  • Professional cameras that weren’t registered through our Press team are not allowed in the venue.
  • Professional still camera equipment (no detachable lenses, no tripods, big zooms, or commercial use rigs)
  • Audio/video recording equipment
  • Weapons of ANY kind
  • Fireworks/explosives
  • Illegal Substances
  • Large coolers
  • Hard sided coolers
  • Picnic Baskets
  • Pets
  • Glass containers of any kind
  • Alcohol (beer/wine will be sold at the Festival)
  • Instruments
  • Chains/Chain Wallets
  • Large backpacks
  • Laser pointers
  • No illegal vending is permitted. No unauthorized/unlicensed vendors allowed.
  • No smoking of any kind or tobacco products

***There will be ADA accessible seating and bathroom facilities available on location.

***Lawn chairs are permitted at The Finale Concert, however you may be asked to move as the crowd moves in.

FAQ

I see multiple dates on the flyer.  What exactly is going on?

The Festival officially starts on Wednesday, July 13th with The Hip-Hop Institute in the English Department of Medgar Evers College, 1638 Bedford Avenue, Brooklyn, NY 11225 from 10am – 4pm.  This event kicks off the Festival with a series of lectures, panels and workshops each including well known artists and individuals who are a part of and/or have contributed to the positivity of the Hip-Hop culture.  This event is dedicated to the study and advancement of issues of entrepreneurship and criminal justice in our community.  This event has sold out, however if you’d still like to attend please arrive at least 15 minutes prior to the start of this event as this event is on a first come, first serve basis.

On Thursday, July 14th the Dummy Clap Film Festival will take place in the English Department of Medgar Evers College, 1638 Bedford Avenue, Brooklyn, NY 11225 from 12pm – 7pm.  This event is a celebration of Hip-Hop as told through the moving image.  Screenings of old school films, documentaries, and shorts, as well as Masters Classes from leading filmmakers both indie and major will be held.  

The Juice Hip-Hop Exhibition will take place on Friday, July 15th at St. Ann’s Warehouse, 45 Water Street, DUMBO, Brooklyn, 11202 from 7pm – 11pm.  This exhibition is dedicated to showcasing all aspects of the culture.  DJ showcases, dance battles, live art as well as original art exhibitions.

And finally the créme de la créme of NYC Hip-Hop concerts, The Finale Concert, will take place on Saturday, July 16th at the Main Stage – 11 Water Street, DUMBO, Brooklyn, NY 11201, at Dock Street (Standing Room Only) as well as the Second Stage at St. Ann’s Warehouse, 45 Water Street, DUMBO, Brooklyn (Standing Room Only) from 1pm – 8pm.  This is where you will witness one of our Festival’s hottest and most historical lineups rock out.  This lineup includes Nas, Fabolous, Talib Kweli, Rapsody and DJ Rob Swift.  Hip-Hop royalty, Uncle Ralph McDaniels and Coney Island MC, Torae will return as the event’s hosts.  This is the culmination of the Festival and is the legendary show that has created unforgettable memories for over a decade.

What time does The Finale Concert begin?

This is a daytime Festival.  It begins promptly at 1pm and ends at 8pm so be ready to rock with us all day long!

Where will The Finale Concert performances take place?

This year we proudly return to our original location at Brooklyn Bridge Park at 11 Water Street, DUMBO, Brooklyn, NY 11201.

Yes indeed. A lot of it. All good. There will be some great local vendors in the Vendor Village who will be serving delicious grub all day long.

What about adult beverages for the grown folk?
